I've been sketching from childhood off and on and fell in love with watercolour in my 20's.
I remember strolling in the famous mews in Brighton one day after work, when I noticed a couple of small watercolour seascapes in the window of an art gallery.
I was struck by the way the artist recreated the effect of gleams of sunlight piercing the clouds, by means of what I later came to understand was the 'wet in wet' technique. I was mesmerized as I may have dabbled in watercolour but I never got results like that, which was both convincing and very beautiful.
That incident motivated me to study the subject more seriously and very gradually over the years I improved my own technique.
